The Gobi Gurvan Saikhan Mountain is 180 km west of Dalanzadgad, the capital of Omnogobi province, and consists of three large mountain ranges: Togtokhsaikhan, Dundsaikhan, Dzungsaikhan.

The highest point of the Gurvansaikhan mountain range is 2846 meters above the level of Dzungsaikhan mine. There is famous Yol mouth in this mountain. In 1993, an area of 2.7 million hectares was confirmed as the merited Gurvansaikhan Natural Park for the protection of Hongor Sands, Nemegt, Hermen Tsav and Zain main-class areas to the west to support tourism activities.

Mongolian sakura or almonds bloom in Gobi Gurvansaikhan mountain in spring at the end of April. There is a strange formation in Baruun Saikhan Mountain where mantle rocks from 400 million years ago are exposed. It is surrounded by areas with the richest deposits of dinosaurs, such as Bayanzag, Togrog Shiree, Khermentsav, Bugi tsav, and Guril tsav.

Wildlife

The park is a haven for some endangered species like the argali sheep, snow leopard and Siberian ibex. The eponymous mountains of the park are inhabited by the magnificent lammergeier, or bearded vulture. The eastern range of the park supports the endangered Saker Falcon and has been designated an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International.

From Ulaanbaatar, fly or drive to Dalanzadgad in Omnogobi province. The park is 180 km further west.

Get around

Areas of sand dunes are found, most famously the Khongoryn Els (the Singing Sands). Another major tourist destination is Yolyn Am, which is connected with Dalanzadgad by paved road and a mountain valley that contains a large ice field through most of the year.
