Downriver from Bingen, there are three Medieval castles near the town of Trechingshausen: Burg Rheinstein, Burg Reichenstein, and Burg Sooneck. Built up on the stony cliffs overlooking the Rhine, these fortresses quickly transport you back across the centuries as they have displays of art, weapons, and furnishings.
The B9 goes through the village.
The Bingen-Rüdesheimer [formerly dead link] cruise boats occasionally stop at Trechtingshausen and Burg Rheinstein.
The village itself is small enough to walk round. To get to Burg Rheinstein or Burg Sooneck it is best by car or along the cycle path.
- 1 Burg Rheinstein (Parking on the side of the B9 just south of the town.). Originally build in 13th century and restored in the 19th this castle is well worth a visit for the building itself as well as the views from the towers reach by exterior stairways.
- 2 Burg Reichenstein (On the southern edge of the town).
- 3 Burg Sooneck (North of the town a little of the main road.).
The Rheinburgenweg runs passed Burg Rheinstein and above Trechtingshausen and Burg Sooneck.
