Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (CTU IATA) is the main airport of Chengdu, Sichuan.
Understand
editOriginally a US Air Force base in WWII, the airport started to be used for commercial flights in 1956. After several expansions through the decades, it became the big airport seen today.
Chengdu is poised to become the third-biggest hub in China next to Beijing-Capital and Shanghai-Pudong. This is because of the Air China and newcomer Sichuan Airlines hubs here. Recent expansions of service to more cities in Europe and new service to North America also play a role, showing the impact of newer Chinese airlines as well as foreign airlines noticing Chengdu.
