User:Nicole Sharp/safety advice about werewolves for eclipse chasers
There is no scientific evidence that werewolves as depicted in common folklore and mythology actually exist. Whereas lycanthropy is a human mental state in which a human believes that they are a wolf or can transform into a wolf. Lycanthropes may believe legends and folklore about human to werewolf transformations during a Full Moon.
If you are traveling for a Solar Eclipse, it is important to remember that Solar eclipses only happen during a New Moon, never a Full Moon. A New Moon is when the Lunar phase angle is largest, which is required in order for Luna to pass in front of (to eclipse) Sol. So you can rest easy and should not be concerned about lycanthropes or werewolves when you are planning your eclipse trip!
Vampires (or people who believe they are vampires) may be able to go outside during the few minutes of Solar totality though.
No one should ever look directly at an Annular Solar Eclipse as the eclipse magnitude is not total. Only a Total Solar Eclipse is safe to view without protection, and only during totality.
