Walking to the beach / Can Pastilla
If you're having a layover and want to spend it giving a visit to the beach or want to save on the 3€ airport bus surcharge, there is an option by walking. It's going to take 25-30 minutes.
Note: It may not bee the most scenic walk (you are going to pass by a 'behind the scenes' of the airports rental car industry) and it's not advisable to take it with lots of baggage. There's not always a proper sidewalk and you shouldn't take it in the hours of darkness. You can make yourself familiar with this route using the high-resolution sattelite images on Google Maps and Streetview.
When leaving the security area on arrivals level turn left and exit the terminal next to Burger King. Now just follow the street along the terminal and apron. You'll pass by the VIP terminal and take the next turn left. Continue straight along some freight hangars and carports. Take the second turn on the left, then right. Now you can enter a fenced road running along the airport outskirts. There is no proper sidewalk here, but usually no heavy traffic and you're just walking 300 meters until you reach a pedestrian bridge on the right, to cross the highway. Just make sure approaching drivers are able to easily spot you. One you've crossed the bridge it's mere another 350m on a dirt road and now you're in Can Pastilla! For the beach continue straight or take EMT buses 23, 25, 31, 35 to Palma from the bus station on your right.
