The northern region is a tourist region of Uruguay that includes the departments of Rivera and Tacuarembo.

Rivera Department

• 1 Rivera — the capital city of Rivera Department and is located along the border with the city of Santana do Livramento, Brazil. Both cities are joint by the Plaza Internacional, and the transit between the two is free. It has many places to visit such as churches, old buildings, Plaza Artigas, Parque Gran Bretaña, and the Atilio Paiva Olivera stadium among other attractions.

Tacuarembó Department

• 3 Tacuarembó — the capital city and the most populous city of Tacuarembó Department, it's the center of the urban life of the department. Known to be one of the alleged birthplaces of Carlos Gardel —perhaps the most prominent personality in the history of tango—, it's the home of many uruguayan writers, musicians and athletes, and an important center of gaucho culture and native people's legacy.
• 4 Paso de los Toros — the second city in terms of population of the department, it's located on the shore of the Negro River. It offers a great view of the Rincón del Bonete dam and its lake, camping parks and a quiet town where you can rest peacefully.
• 5 San Gregorio de Polanco — a small city located also on the north shore of the Rincón del Bonete lake. The city itself is a open-air museum with many murals and sculptures, and has several kilometers of freshwater beaches.

Valle Eden

• 1 Cerro Batoví (Batovi Hill) (on the route 5, located 25 km from Tacuarembó city). This hill is part of the range of hills Cuchilla de Haedo and its name means breast of a virgin in guaraní language. It's one of the most beautiful natural attractions of Tacuarembó that stands out due to its shape.  
• 2 Balneario Iporá (located 7 km from Tacuarembó city). A destination where the traveller can enjoy nature and peace, surrounded by a forest of pines. It has two artificial lakes, pools, sports fields and camping.  
• 3 Valle Edén (on the route 26 km 208). A hamlet distinguished by its native flora and tourist attractions, among them the Pozo Hondo, a waterfall that ends in a deep well and surrounded by vegetation. Here is also the Carlos Gardel Museum, which pays tribute to "El Mago del Tango" (the Wizard of Tango) and exposes several objects and elements of his life. In this site is also the historic train station of Valle Edén, founded in early 20th century. Valle Edén has camping, a pub and a restaurant.  
• 4 Cerro Cementerio (near route 26, 22 km from Tacuarembó city and 2 km from Valle Edén). It's a little hill of about 30 meters in height, whose name is due to a local myth about that this hill served as a cemetery of indigenous and criollo people which inhabitated this region.
