Wikivoyage:Search Expedition/Missing links from Wikipedia

Note: Nearly all Wikivoyage articles are now linked from Wikipedia via Wikidata, so ensuring that Wikipedia articles also contain a Wikivoyage template is no longer a critical SEO task. Despite that caveat, having sister project links in articles does help to increase the visibility of Wikivoyage, there should still be some SEO benefit, and Wikivoyage links are useful references to Wikipedia readers, so adding missing links still adds value for both projects.

Instructions

The following links include lists of articles that may be missing links FROM Wikipedia to Wikivoyage using w:Template:Wikivoyage or w:Template:Wikivoyage-inline. To help resolve these issues:

  1. Go to the linked Wikivoyage article and verify that it has been developed sufficiently to be a useful link from Wikipedia. In general articles that are usable or above, or outlines that have content in most sections, can be linked from Wikipedia.
  2. If the article is sufficiently developed, click on the "Wikipedia" link in the left nav under "Other sites".
  3. Verify that the Wikipedia article does not already contain a link to Wikivoyage.
  4. Either in the last section of the article, or in the same section as other interwiki links (such as Commons), add a link to Wikivoyage using one of the following templates. To prevent the link from being reverted, consider using an edit summary like "link to Wikivoyage per [[WP:Sister]]":
    • {{wikivoyage|article name on Wikivoyage}}
    • {{Wikivoyage-inline|article name on Wikivoyage}}
    • {{Sister project links|voy=article name on Wikivoyage}}
  5. Once the steps above are complete, remove the article from the list of articles missing Wikipedia links (if it is not manually removed then it will be automatically removed the next time the full list is updated).

See WV:Links from Wikipedia for more detailed instructions on adding links from the corresponding Wikipedia article.
