Removal of URL from Blacklist

Hello, why is my apartment url on the blacklist here. I dont understand. Please help me about this. Vienna Cityapartment at is my site. Im the Owner of the 4 Apartments in Vienna. Guido

Goodevening, I am writing in to ask for the url mentioned below to be removed from your blacklist, I hope this is the correct section to ask. It was added to several florida accommodation sections where the website offers villa and accommodation rentals direct from the owner. It is not an agency and so it was felt that it complied with the wikipedia regulations based on its similarity to other websites that were listed. If this is not the case then please receive our apologies and the site will not be added again. Thank you for your assistance.

I've removed it for now, but please read Project:Accommodation listings#Apartment listings before re-adding this link to any articles. Blacklist nominations

• cozumelwith.us is spamming the http://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Cozumel page with content like "Tequila" and their link. Manually removed but should be blacklisted.

Catch-all pattern

I added the following pattern on jamwiki.org a while back, and it seems to catch a significant amount of spam that hits that site. The pattern will block any list of ten or more URLs of the form "http://example.com http://example2.com..." that is added - as far as I can see there shouldn't be any legitimate edits that use that pattern, but spammers do it all the time. I'd like to add it here, but if it is found to block any legitimate edits please revert.

I wrote a new one ((\[https?://(\S*\.)+\S+\ .*\]\s*)|(https?://(\S*\.)+\S+\s+)){6,} to catch [http://example.com text] http://www.example.com.na [http://example.com] in any combination. Works perfectly in kregexpeditor, but for some reason it does not work on the blacklist if I look for 10 repetitions. Seems to work fine for 6 though.

I confess I'm not sure how best to handle this, but you're right, it would definitely be ideal to not block wikivoyage.org domain links using the (otherwise useful) catch all pattern. Just as we block "display colon none" to prevent CSS-based spam, we've been hit with a few today that use "z dash index". Subdomains and Russian Wikivoyage

For some reason, when I list subdomains on the Russian blacklist, it is blocking the main domain as well. For example:

"best\-windows2005\.narad\.ru" blocks all instances of "narad.ru" (narod changed to narad to avoid blacklist problems).

Recently I set a team up to optimize our standing with the search engines. I was appalled to find that not only had they resorted to stupid techniques, they had ruined the quality of the information provided on Wiki Travel, by placing citations in random places throughout the destination sections. I was even more horrified that their stupidity had led us to be black listed on a reputable site, and seeing as they reported to me, it’s now my job in jeopardy. Accor/Ibis Hotels Blacklist

Do we really want to blacklist this hotel group? It understand a single user has been added entries for multiple hotels, but we allow people to do it for other major hotel chains. I wonder why ya dot ru is blacklisted: I'm trying to mention these two in a talk page:

For something as general as "ya dot ru" I'm not sure the spam blacklist is the best way to go, as it will cause false positives against a wide variety of URLs, such as "mya dot ru". I made a good-faith effort to alert an apparent travel site promoter that this link violated Project:External links by leaving pointers to the policy in edit summaries and on the user's talk page, but when my reverts were immediately restored I added the site to the blacklist as a way of preventing these links from being added to (seemingly) dozens of India articles. How do you remove the above url from the spam list. The above services are the leading air ambulance and aircharter services present in this part of the world. With an external link, this would be a useful information for all travellers. Why do you feel this is spam. The smaller cities information for air ambulance would be useful to the traveller visiting and meeting with an emergency medical condition or the exceptional traveller wishing to visit a small town where commercial flights do not operate.

I wonder how your individual site pages are helpful to traveller.

At this point I would recommend that under no circumstances should this site be removed from the spam list - they are clearly abusing Wikivoyage for the purpose of advertising a business. Hello Ryan I am writing in to ask for the url mentioned below round the world flights dot com and rtwflights dot com to be removed from your blacklist, I hope this is the correct section to ask. Also to apologise - didnt realise you werent allowed to link to specific page tables. Had being doing it for ages mainly because I had written and updated a lot of the content - most of that was without links. Also didnt realise there was the talk section till someone showed it to me yesterday. Yeah as you say wasnt malicious but breaks the rules. Realise its a big no no now. This site has been repeatedly added many, many times to Round the world flights, often replacing the airline's own sites (such as http://thegreatescapade/). I'm not convinced that this is malicious, but attempts to point the anonymous user in question to Project:Don't tout and Project:External links have failed, so until there is some acknowledgment that the user has read those policies and understands why turning the Round the world flights page into a personal advertising brochure is inappropriate I think this one should stay blacklisted. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 10:53, 21 November 2008 (EST)

This one keeps getting re-added to Central America and South America. I'm having no luck getting this user to notice the notes I've left on his/her talk page and in revert summaries, so hopefully the spam list will work. Linking to audio tours is frowned upon according to Project:External links, so while it might be a great site, Trek Exchange is not appropriate for listing on Wikivoyage. Just remove it. I think we should actually have a process in place to clean up the blacklist every now and then, because many of the hit-and-run spammers never come back, and having too big a blacklist causes collateral damage. (WT-en) Jpatokal 21:57, 14 December 2008 (EST)

Agree with Jani. If no one objects I think we should take a stab at trimming the list significantly, and anything that turns up from a spambot can always be blacklisted again later. Have a look at Project:Spam filter which gives some details on how the two blacklists work. The Project:Local spam whitelist allows URLs that are being blocked by the default Mediawiki spam blacklist. In this case, it appears that you have to add the exact pattern on the Mediawiki blacklist to the whitelist to allow it. This site is apparently an apartment rental aggregator based in the UK. Their business does not appear to be in compliance with Project:Accommodation listings#Apartment listings (local rentals, local address, address listed on web site), but despite repeated attempts to point them to that policy they continue to spam articles ranging from Barcelona to Florence to Madrid (and others). An anonymous user changed a significant number of URLs for El Nido to point to ewdm dot net. A bit of googling turns up a number of tripadvisor forum postings that accuse this site of some very sketchy behavior, so I've blacklisted the URL. Please remove your post referring to us and listing us as spam we are a legitimate service and have had problems with competitors adding links to our site with inappropriate information including the trip adviser link you provided which clearly exposes the culprits staff at marina garden resort who after being declined space on our site took under hand measures, involving slander and self promotion.

Trip adviser staff and other web masters are in the process or removing slanderous posts about us now, please take the time to look closely before listing some one as spam as it effects the lively hoods of real people with real jobs.

The explanation above fails to explain why at one point a significant number of the links on the El Nido article were changed to point at the site above - see [6]. Based on questions raised on other web sites and past abuses on Wikivoyage I'm not sure that the site above should be removed from the blacklist, although you're welcome to provide any additional information that might help clarify the situation. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 20:16, 3 March 2009 (EST)
