Zeitz is a town in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.
Understand
editZeitz is often used in the media as an example of dreariness and hopelessness in the east, whereby as so often only the negative sides are shown - completely dilapidated and run-down Gründerzeit quarters as well as an empty pedestrian zone are well suited for the camera, while the worthwhile sights are ignored to make the city seem drabber than it really is. One should not be deterred by a visit to the city simply because of the picture presented by Zeitz in the media.
