DescriptionPeak Alum Works - geograph.org.uk - 1404413.jpg
English: Peak Alum Works This is a fascinating archaeological site as well as a haven for wildlife. On the day we visited, we were asked to look out for adders! It is also interesting for anyone with an interest in geology. Alum shale was quarried from the hillside and was used in liquor production at this site from 1650 to 1860. This was then used in dyeing and tanning leather.
