I wish there are other scriptbooks for Tamil, Lao, Thai, Kannada, Khmer, Sinhala, Oriya, Bengali, Ge'ez, Malayalam, Telugu, you get the picture. How about turning to Omniglot for inspiration? – (WT-en) CurvyEthyl 02:27, 10 October 2010 (EDT)
- It might be a good idea, but we have to understand that Wikivoyage is a travel guide, not a language school. If you want to create a guide to learn a new language or a new writing system, you can use Wikibooks and Wikiversity. I think we should create scriptbooks for complex writing systems if they are used by multiple languages and if they cannot be covered in a single language phrasebook. --Sbb1413 (he) (talk • contribs) 07:31, 27 April 2024 (UTC)

- We should not move this scriptbook to Wikibooks, because it serves as the common spelling and pronunciation guide for several phrasebooks like Hindi, Maithili, Marathi, Nepali and other languages using Devanagari. We can also create Learning Arabic script, which will serve as the common spelling and pronunciation guide for phrasebooks like Arabic, Persian, Punjabi (Pakistan), Sindhi, Urdu etc. Sbb1413 (he) (talk • contribs) 07:08, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
- I think the criteria for new scriptbooks should be as follows:
- The writing system should be used by multiple major languages and it is not associated with a particular one.
- The phonology of the users should be similar.
- The writing system should be too complex to be covered in a language phrasebook.
- Devanagari and Arabic scripts satisfy the above criteria, while Bengali–Assamese (my native script) and Cyrillic scripts don't satisfy them. Bengali–Assamese is associated with Bengali and Assamese, and there are only three major languages using the script (Bengali, Assamese and Manipuri). - Also, any scriptbook should be written with travellers in mind, per ttcf. It should not become a comprehensive script course with nitty-gritty details.
