Bridge of Besalú

Besalú is medieval town in the Girona Province. It is a pleasing, compact town with stone homes and businesses that is easily walkable. The main attractions are the 12th-century Romanesque bridge over the Fluvià river, 11th century Church of Sant Pere, and a number of restored Jewish structures.

Positioned about 25km west of Figueres While there is a bus, Besalú is best accessed by car via the N-260 and exiting off on C-66.

Get around

The old section of town is closed off to non-resident cars, so you will need to walk. While the cobblestone streets can be tricky for those wearing heels, the town is overall very easy and enjoyable to traverse on foot. The bridge can only be crossed on foot.

  • 1 Besalú bridge (East of the town). Historic bridge. Free admission.
  • Cal Tronc, 15 Calle Mayor (walk), +34 972 59 00 83. Tu - Sa, 9:00h - 16:00 , 20:00 - 23:00. Good quality food at a decent price.
  • Restaurant Pont Vell, Carrer del Pont Vell, 24, +34 972 59 10 27. Probably the best restaurant in Besalu as well as probably the most expensive. Great location for lunch on the terrace with views of the bridge.
