How to identify articles? edit

I'd be happy to translate some articles from German to English. How were the three items in this article derived?

Are there any types of articles that have more information in WV:German than WV:English? Articles about Germany is an obvious one. Andrewssi2 (talk) 13:18, 3 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Are you asking how they are tagged? Articles are found manually and then placed in this category with the {{translate|de}} template. Texugo (talk) 13:42, 3 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
That is good to know! Thanks! (This is new area for me)
What I was also trying to get at is whether there are currently German articles of higher quality (in terms of descriptions, listings, etc) than their English counterparts? Andrewssi2 (talk) 13:50, 3 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes. That's the point of this category. For example, de:Saint-Denis (Réunion) is currently being translated to improve Saint-Denis. Ikan Kekek (talk) 13:54, 3 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
de:Saint-Denis (Réunion) is interesting because it requires both translation and merging (the 'Understand' is more complete in German and the 'Get in' more complete in English). Andrewssi2 (talk) 14:08, 3 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
If you speak German, you might have a look through de:Kategorie:Empfehlenswerte Reiseführer, de:Kategorie:Vollständige Artikel and de:Spezial:Längste_Seiten and then come back to en: and tag the articles that could benefit from translation. (Same goes for any other language too). Texugo (talk) 14:16, 3 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
I'm happy to jump in here, as well. I've been doing the work on Saint-Denis just because it was on the list, but I can help populate the list if it needs attention -- MisterCustomer (talk) 15:13, 3 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
That would be most excellent. I am all about collaboration between language versions... Texugo (talk) 16:21, 3 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Tegernsee edit

I have completed an 'adaption' of the German Tegernsee article and have noted the following:

  • German articles appear to contain a lot more technical detail than their English counterparts, and I didn't take all of this detail
  • The understand section has a lot of historical detail that felt somewhat overwhelming, and therefore I simplified it a bit
  • The autobahn icons look nice inside the text

Exit criteria? edit

When do we know when an article has been sufficiently translated to take the translation tag off?

Additionally, can we place the tag on the discussion page to indicate that the translation took place on a certain date? Andrewssi2 (talk) 01:28, 11 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

I have been taking them off when I finish the literal translation, and letting and further English editing develop from there. Putting a tag in the talk page is a great idea, though, so we are clear on when everything took place -- MisterCustomer (talk) 00:43, 7 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! I have created a prototype and started the discussion at: Category_talk:Articles_needing_translation#Template_badge_for_translated_articles (Since it applies to all languages) Andrewssi2 (talk) 02:39, 7 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Let German WV that you have completed translation edit

I have created a template on German WV (No example here because it won't work on English WV) that will allow you to leave a message on the article's discussion page to say that a translation took place.

Template and example
