Chingola is a city of 266,478 in Zambia. It lies in the Copperbelt region, the country's main copper mining area and its economy relies heavily on mining activities. In fact, the town was established in 1943, when the large copper mines of nearby Nchanga were opened.

Get in

edit

The city's small airstrip can receive small planes only. Larger airports in the region are in Ndola (NLA IATA), or across the border in Lubumbashi - Luano (FBM IATA).

There is a train connection to Kitwe, but it is only used for freight trains carrying copper that is to be melted in Kitwe. This means your main way in here is by road. The T3 leaves town in south-east direction, heading to Kitwe and then on towards Lusaka, the country capital. The same road also runs in northern direction, connecting down the way to the main road to Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
