Ice cream in its numerous forms has become a beloved dessert throughout the world. Trying out a local flavor or style of ice cream during vacation, especially in hot weather, is one of the great travel experiences.

editThe history of the early ice cream and other frozen desserts goes back thousands of years and may have been invented in ancient Persia or China. Blocks of ice would be carved out from mountains during the winter and stored underground during the summer. This ice would be combined with syrups and milk to create various chilled desserts. However, due to the laborious process and cost involved, these early kinds of ice cream were only consumed by the aristocratic class. Ice cream started to become a mass product in the 19th century when refrigeration technology made making ice more affordable.

edit- 1 Bologna, Italy. Italy is renowned for gelato and Bologna is one of the best cities for gelato. The city even has a gelato museum.
- 2 Two Rivers, Wisconsin, United States. The city claims to be the birthplace of the ice cream sundae in 1881, though there are other American cities like Ithaca, New York which contest the claim.
- 3 Kahramanmaras, Turkey (Maraş). Maraş is believed to the city where dondurma was invented, Turkish mastic ice cream. The addition of salep or mastic gum makes dondurma have a much chewier and stretchier texture than Western ice cream. Nowadays, dondurma is available all over Turkey.

If you are prone to getting brain freezes, remember to eat your ice cream slowly. If you get a severe brain freeze, you can place your tongue on the roof of your mouth or drink something warm to relieve the symptoms as soon as possible.
