Jieyang (揭阳; Gêg⁴ion⁵ in Teochew, Jiēyáng in Mandarin) is a city in Guangdong Province in China.

The Rongcheng (榕城) district forms the downtown core of the prefecture-level city of Jieyang. In addition, Jieyang also administers the county-level city of Puning (普宁). Also under Jieyang's jurisdiction are the three counties of Jiedong (揭东), Jiexi (揭西) and Huilai (惠来).

Teochew is the main language spoken in Jieyang, though most people can speak Mandarin as well. English is, to cut a long story short, virtually non-existent.

  • 1 Jinxian Gate (Jìnxián Mén 进贤门). A Chinese-style entrance gate to the city, built during the Ming Dynasty.  
  • 2 Jieyang Museum (揭阳博物馆), 7 Hanci Road, Rongcheng District (榕城区韩祠路7号) (A short distance to the west of Jin Xian Men), +86 663 8622792. 09:00-11:30, 14:30-17:00, closed on Mondays. The museum is housed inside the Jieyang Confucius Temple (揭阳学宫). Free.

The county-level city of Puning is famous for its dried tofu (豆干 dòugān, dao7 guan1 in Teochew).
