Mountains

edit

Karjat has many mountains. The undulated green plains and the hilly terrains emerging from the Karjat plains make this place a much-sought destination for adventurous tourists trekking. Karjat is one of the starting points for various treks in the Western Ghats, one of which is Rajmachi. A rickshaw ride from Karjat Bridge will take you to Kondivde village or Khandpe village. From Kondivde it takes 15 minutes to walk to Kahndpe village. Khandpe village forms the base of the Rajmachi trek. It is a 7 km ascend to the Rajmachi village (about 2.5 hours). After about 45 minutes from the village one reaches Kondhane Caves. A beautiful waterfall covers the caves; it is an experience to see the huge waterfall from within the caves. Rajmachi village forms the base to trek to two forts - Manarajan (also known as Manoranjan) and Srivardhan, which are adorned by a beautiful lake and a temple. One can also view waterfalls from the small tableland of Rajmachi.

From Chouk, Nanivali, the starting point of this trek, is a comfortable 2.3 kilometres walk. From Nanivali, you should follow a wide well-defined path till Irshalwadi. The path climbs a steep ridge and then tapers to an easy ascend to Irshalwadi. From Irshalwadi, head towards a temple dedicated to a local deity and access the Irshalgad plateau via a west–east axis. The trek is child-friendly till the pinnacle base. Nevertheless, there have been numerous fatalities while climbing the pinnacle. Irshalgad (Q13115923) on Wikidata Irshalgad on Wikipedia
