Accommodation is available in forms of guesthouses. Shishtavec is an emerging tourist destination of the Kukes region.

Understand
editThis is the inland region of Albania to the north of the Shkumbin River. It borders Montenegro, Kosovo and North Macedonia.
Talk
editThe native language of the region is Gheg, the northern dialect of Albanian. While the two main dialects of Albanian are mutually intelligible, but due to the fact that the official standard of Albanian was shifted from Gheg to Tosk, the southern dialect, during the rule of Enver Hoxha (1941–1985), the communist dictator of Albania and a Tosk speaker himself, some locals in Northeastern Albania may have bitter feelings about Tosk dialect—so be cautious while smattering your Albanian.
Get in
edit- From Kosovo – Morine border crossing along the R7/SH5 motorway near Prizren
- From Kosovo – Qafa Prushit border crossing along the M9-1/SH22 near Gjakova
- From Montenegro – Vermosh/Vjeternik border crossing near Gucinje
Get around
editThe best way to get around is by bus or van (furgon). Buses that go from Tirana to Durres cost 100 lek for example. Inner city buses cost 30 lek a trip. Some buses that leave Skanderberg Square are free with the end destination being the mall advertised on the side of the bus. Sometimes you can grab a mall bus, and get out before the mall somewhere for a free ride! Furgon's cost a little more, from 200 lek and up if you are heading out of a major town and are used for faster transport and the more windy mountain roads that cannot accommodate a large bus. You can get almost anywhere by bus, with totally unmarked stations all over the Square area.

Thermal springs and baths
edit- 11 Peshkopi – A town in the Dibër District of Albania, with spa facilities and 1 or two outside/public pools. There are direct buses every ½-1 hr from Tirana.
- 1 Kozani-8 thermal baths (along the Tirana-Elbasan highway). At least two bath houses with quiet hot waters (60°C and up). This is closer to Tirana than Elbasan but the facilities are maintained poorly. The springs that feeds the baths here is the hottest spring in Albania, even though it is actually a well where hot water was discovered by accident.
- 2 Shupali Spring (west of Perkola village). The water is quiet hot, 29.5°C. The location is not particular clear, so it is best to ask the locals. The closest one can get with public transport is to Zall-Bastar—the bus starts near Myslym Keta bus stop in Tirana.
- 3 Mamurras Springs (Zheji). Not particular picturesque nor hot, in a quite dirty river valley, but the surroundings might allow for some surreal picture. Also, there isn't really any place to take a dip, except for maybe the feet.
