Get aroundEdit

SeeEdit

  • Thundering Brook Falls, 2295 River Rd. (From the intersection of 4, 100, and Killington Rd. drive east on 4 for about 2 miles to River Rd. The parking lot is on the left approximately 1.5 miles down the road). Beautiful 140-foot waterfall accessed by a short walk on a handicap accessible boardwalk portion of the Appalachian Trail.

DoEdit

  • 1 Killington Ski Resort, 4763 Killington Rd, toll-free: +1-800-621-MTNS (6867). Called the "Beast of the East" Killington is the largest ski resort in the eastern United States. The ski area also usually has the longest ski season in the east, operating from around late October until June. The resort is made up of 6 mountain peaks and over 200 trails. In addition to its well known winter offerings, Killington also has a variety of summer activities including mountain biking, hiking, and disc golf.
  • 2 Pico Mountain, 73 Alpine Dr., +1 802-422-1330. A favorite of locals, Pico offers skiers and riders many benefits of a larger mountain but with a smaller mountain feel. The mountain is owned by the parent company of Killington, allowing ticket packages for both resorts to be purchased together.

BuyEdit

As far as Vermont goes, Killington is a rather good place for shopping, particularly for anything related to outdoor sports. Many small stores can be found along Route 4 in the area surrounding the turn onto Killington Road. Killington Road itself offers incredible food and shopping, particularly for skiers, snowboarders, and cyclists. It is very difficult to go wrong by simply walking into any store on the road.

During the winter, the ski lodges tend to sell many souvenirs such as pins and signs. These may come at a slightly inflated price, but for people who enjoy physical reminders of their time in the area, they are well worth it.

For those on a budget, cheaper souvenirs can be found in most shops. Found on Killington Road, the Killington Market has an underrated gift shop and offers a larger and better-priced selection than the Killington Resort, along with good food and a small-town-country-store aesthetic. The employees are often skiing, snowboarding, and biking enthusiasts and may point you to other good places to visit if asked.

Souvenirs sold for cheaper than the resort’s prices can also be found at First Stop Ski and Board Shop, which also sells and rents skiing, snowboarding, and biking equipment, and Darkside Snowboards, which offers skateboarding and snowboarding equipment and a small skate park in the parking lot.

SleepEdit

There is lodging of all types on and off mountain. "Ski in Ski out" lodging means just that -- it enables you to generally, but not always, leave your parking worries behind. Many condo and vacation rentals that are in developments offer shuttle buses to the lifts.

Go nextEdit

  • Heading east one would soon find themselves in Woodstock, a village that could be described as the quintessential Vermont town. Many little shops line its Main St. with the green mountains as their backdrop.
