Lang Tengah (Malay: Lang Tengah) or Pulau Lang Tengah is an island in Terengganu in Malaysia, featuring sandy white beaches and clear blue waters with plenty of fish and coral. The island is in the middle of the best kept marine park on the East Coast of Malaysia with some of the best diving and snorkeling sites in West Malaysia.

Lang Tengah - "the Eagle in the Middle" - gets its name from its location between the Perhentian Islands and Redang Island

Lang Tengah Island about a half hour’s boat ride from Merang Jetty. Boats are sent from the resorts to pick up tourists at the Merang Jetty. Pickup is usually in the morning until noon. It is easy to fly to Terengganu airport and get a taxi to Merang Jetty. Coaches also travel from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Terengganu, from where you can get to Merang Jetty by personal car or taxi. Although officially, Merang Jetty is given an address in Kuala Terengganu, rather than in Merang itself, it is in fact in Merang, and the journey to the jetty lasts about 50-60 minutes by car from the centre of KT and about 40 minutes from KT Airport.

edit

Lang Tengah has no roads; travel around the island is by foot, boat, kayak or just by snorkeling. The waters surrounding the island are shallow. Large boats are not allowed to dock at the beaches, there is a large boat jetty on Pasir Ayer. Tourists on other beaches must transfer from larger ferries to smaller speedboats to reach the beach.

  • The fantastic coral reef all around the island,
  • the amazing insect, reptile and bird life in the forest
  • turtles nesting on the beaches
  • baby sharks in the shallows

Snorkeling and diving. The waters surrounding the island are abundant with coral and small fish. Care should be taken to not disturb the marine life as it is very fragile. The marine park has rules to minimise visitor damage to the environment

Start with a snorkel course, practice in the shallows and then look at marine life. Experience weightlessness and beauty underwater with a Discover Scuba Course (DSC). Learn more with an Open Water course or more advanced Diving courses. For qualified divers trips are organised by the various dive centres; night diving is also available. Divers can rent scuba equipment from the dive centres, which also refill tanks as part of the rental package.

Snorkeling & diving boat trips to Redang Marine Park (45 minutes away) are also offered.

Turtle watching Marine turtles come to the island to nest from May to October, guided tours to watch the turtles nesting can be arranged by Tropical Research and Conservation Centre next to the Sari Pacifica Resort.
