Lhokseumawe City is a city in Aceh province, located in the northern part of the island of Sumatra.

Lhokseumawe is the second largest city in the province of Aceh, with a population of about 180,000. Being between Banda Aceh to the north and the large city of Medan to the south, the town is a key regional centre important for the economy of Aceh.

  • 1 Malikus Saleh Airport (LSW IATA). Has regular scheduled flights to Medan operated by Wings Air and Garuda Indonesia.    

The second airport of the city, Lhok Sukon Airport, is operated by oil company ExxonMobil and not used for scheduled flights.

By bus edit

The road from Medan to Lhokseumawe and from Banda Aceh is now reasonable. The express night buses from Medan 8 hours, Rp95,000, are a particularly good deal. Local day and night buses are cheaper (Rp95,000) and take longer (6-8 hours).

By boat edit

The ferry from Penang to Langsa, with a capacity of 138 passengers, commenced operation on the 21st of February.

Get around edit

There is no need for travel permits anymore in Lhokseumawe. Rental becak (rickshaws), cars and motorcycles are available in Lhokseumawe. Lhokseumawe also has a lot public transportation.
