Historically is also known by the participation of the mayors of the town in the declaration of war against the invasion following the Dos de Mayo Uprasing in 1808.

Understand edit

The city is within the metropolitan area of Madrid, with an importan character of a commuter town, since it evolved from being a village in the last third of the 20th century of barely 4,000 inhabitants to one of the largest urban concentrations in the region. In recent years it is gradually loosing its commuter town role thanks to the establishment of institutions such as the Rey Juan Carlos University, the IMDEA Energy research centre and the Dos de Mayo Art Centre (CA2M).
