Matapédia is a municipality in Matapédia Valley area of the Gaspé Peninsula in eastern Quebec. It is situated on the Restigouche River along the New Brunswick border.

editMatapédia is a small village located at the meeting of the Matapédia and Ristigouche rivers, both of which are internationally renowned for salmon fishing. In fact, the name of the village comes from the Micmac language and means "where the rivers meet".

editMatapédia is located along Quebec Route 132, which functions as a ring road around the Gaspé Peninsula east of Rimouski. The Matapédia Bridge cross the Matapédia River into New Brunswick and continues as New Brunswick Route 11.

edit- Canoeing and kayaking – On the Assemetquagan, Matapédia, Patapédia and Ristigouche rivers. The rivers are calm (maximum R1 rapids), except for the Assemetquagan River which has a R2-R3 rapids. Guide service available.
- Fishing and Hunting – The Matapédia and Ristigouche rivers are internationally renowned for black salmon fishing. The streams are excellent for trout fishing.
