Raichur is a district in Karnataka State.
The city is well connected by rail and road, considering it is located enroute Mumbai/Delhi from Chennai/Bangalore.
The city roads are not wide enough, as with any similar small cities in Karnataka. But, most places worth seeing are reachable on foot. Though local transport buses are available, they are not reliable. For getting around "tuk-tuks" are a very good option.
The place holds a very important place in the history of the region. Located between two of South India's biggest rivers, it is a very fertile region and considered a prize by the kings in the ancient times.
The city has some very historic monuments like the fort itself, alongwith many Masjids built by the Adilshahi kings and the Nizams of Hyderabad. Most notable are the Ek Minar Masjid, Shahi Jama Masjid and Jama Masjid, besides scores of Dargahs(Shrines) of Sufi saints distributed across the length and breadth of the city.
