Sahr, formerly Fort Archambault, is a city in Soudanian Chad, the capital of the Moyen-Chari region. The city is named for the Sara people.

Understand edit

Situated along the banks of Chari river, the main source of water for Lake Chad, the city was founded by French colonialists as Fort Archambault in 1899. It was renamed Sahr in 1972, after the Sara people who inhabit southern Chad. With its warm and seasonally wet weather it is both an important center for Chad's cotton industri as well as for fishing in the Chari River.
