Sherman boasts a historic and colorful downtown square surrounding the Grayson County Courthouse, built in 1936. Visitors enjoy browsing the downtown shops of Kelly Square, and other boutiques, restaurants and antique stores on Travis Street. In addition to the shops around the square, downtown Sherman also features the Municipal Building, once a part of Kidd-Key College. The Kidd-Key auditorium is housed here.

There are many beautiful historic homes in Sherman, including the C.S. Roberts House and Museum on Crockett Street's Heritage Row. In addition, the Red River Historical Museum offers visitors a look at Sherman and Grayson County's bygone times.

Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge

A grasslands and marshland wildlife refuge on the Central Flyway with some 338 noted bird species like terns, plovers, eagles, and shrikes, with trails, nature photography, and auto tour routes available.   • Herman Baker Park, 2500 W Center St (western edge of town, off of State Highway 56 (Houston Street)). Features a small lake (Pickens Lake) stocked with fish and a hiking trail. Bring some bread to feed the ducks and geese.
  • Fairview Park, 1121 W Taylor St (in the northwestern part of town near the intersection of Ricketts and Taylor Streets). Paved walking path, Veterans Field (home of the Sherman Bearcats high school baseball team), Fairview Pool, and several tennis courts and soccer fields.

  • Sherman Farmers Market (Crockett and Houston Streets). every Sa from 9AM-Noon between April and October. Craft vendors and sometimes local farmers to the courthouse square. Come out early and get a good look at what Sherman has to offer!
  • Hot Summer Nights. During the summer, the Municipal Building Lawn comes alive every Thursday night for Hot Summer Nights, a free summer concert series featuring acts from around the country.
  • Sherman Arts Festival. It comes to the Municipal Building Lawn every September. The Arts Fest, as it's known locally, features a Judged Art Show & Sale for ages 18 and up, as well as a Youth Art Show. There is also a Woodcarving Show & Sale, a juried Fiber Arts Show, a 5K and Fun Run, live music throughout the day, a pumpkin patch, the annual Pancake Breakfast, a Used Book Sale at the Sherman Public Library, Museum Tours, T-shirt Painting for kids, and plenty of food, arts, and crafts.   • Stroll On The Square - Wine and Food Tasting. around the 1st of October. If you're looking for an upscale event, check out the Sherman Wine & Music Festival in October. Local wineries will bring their wares to the Municipal Building Lawn for tastings, accompanied by the sounds of area musicians.

Antique collectors will find no shortage of treasures downtown. Many small shops line Travis Street.

  • Touch of Class. The three-level Touch of Class Antique shop holds court at the corner of Lamar and Crockett on the square.
  • Sherman Town Center. If you're looking for something a little more modern, the Sherman Town Center on Highway 75 South between Loy Lake Road and U.S. Highway 82 offers shoppers many options, from Old Navy and Target to Pier One Imports and Bed Bath and Beyond.

Sherman has many chain restaurants if you're looking for something familiar - Chili's, Applebee's, Red Lobster, Cheddar's, El Chico - but if you go off the beaten path you'll find some great local spots:

  • Tokyo Sushi & Hibachi, 2916 N. US Highway 75, +1 903 892-2001. lunch and dinner. Try the delicious, fresh sushi or grab a seat near one of the hibachi grills for a delectable meal - with a show! Mid-range to expensive.
  • MG's, 1715 N. Woods, +1 903 893-9011. lunch and dinner. Local favorite has been serving up big burgers since 1982 in this 1950s car-themed restaurant. All-you-can-eat burgers on Saturday afternoons, and don't miss the 75-cent milkshake happy hour! Inexpensive.
  • Tracks, 109 N. Woods, +1 903 870-2034. lunch and dinner. MG's sister restaurant farther south on Woods Street serves up American favorites like chicken fried steak and big baked potatoes. Tasty fried pickles, too! Inexpensive.
  • La Mesa, 2124 Texoma Parkway, +1 903 892-1644. lunch and dinner. Great local favorite for Mexican food. Killer salsa. You won't leave hungry! Inexpensive to mid-range.

Sherman was a "dry" city for many years and so there are not a lot of bars to be had. However, there are some great watering holes (most are restaurants as well) to hang out with friends and wet your whistle.

Also has a wine list, a scotch list, and a full bar. Food, inexpensive; drinks, inexpensive to expensive. Depends on how thirsty or particular you are.
  • City Limits, 4521 Texoma Parkway, +1 903 893-9117. lunch, dinner and beyond. Local favorite on the Parkway offer a limited selection of beers on tap, a full bar and food ranging from quesadillas (not on the menu) to some awesome chicken fried steak. Inexpensive to mid-range.

Sleep

Many chains here, ranging from the Super 8 to the Holiday Inn Express. There are also a few bed & breakfasts sprinkled throughout the area. Camping is also available at nearby Lake Texoma.
