Page structure

The southwest coast of Ireland ends in a series of long peninsulas. For the two in Kerry there are park / sub-county pages, but IMO this is unnecessary, and they can be treated like the other dozen or so major peninsulas into the Atlantic. They add a weight of structure while missing just about every POI.

Ring of Kerry is the coastal circuit of Iveragh peninsula on N70. But once we’ve described the five main settlements along it, that’s it, there isn’t a hinterland or back-country. That page also misses Valentia Island and the offshoot “Skellig Ring”. I propose redirecting it into Killarney, the principal tourist base and usual starting point of the circuit.

Dingle Peninsula likewise I propose redirecting into Dingle, the main base on its south shore, along with Ventry the little harbour at its tip and Annascaul which has a famous pub and, um, that’s about it.

Cloghane-Brandon would be the main settlement north shore, if there was any such place. It’s a staple-job of two villages, but IMO this isn’t a good way to identify scattered rural communities – you could easily end up with a wagon-train name of half a dozen. I propose reversing the redirection, taking the content back into a broader Cloghane which would also include Castlegregory.

New pages were created for Listowel, covering everything in the north of Kerry, and for the Blasket Islands off Dingle.

No views heard so those are DONE except that it proved possible to build Annascaul into a coherent page, and Ring of Kerry with five "city" settlements was better redirected to the County page. In normal times Waterville would be a candidate for page creation, to include Ballinskelligs, Caherdaniel and Derrynane, but it seems futile just now. Grahamsands (talk) 18:32, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
