Talk:Diving the Cape Peninsula and False Bay/Sunfish Pinnacle

Name format

edit

SHB2000, So far I have kept all the Cape Town dive site names following the same format - Diving the Cape Peninsula and False Bay/Site name. It is a bit clunky, but serves to identify them unambiguously, and was originally recommended way back when I started, as following the naming convention for districts. Howeber, I notice that pagename aliases are in general use, for example the arrondissements of Paris. Using an alias like Diving Sunfish Pinnacle looks nicer, but what happens if we get other sites at other places also called Sunfish Pinnacle? This is quite possible, as sunfishes and pinnacles are found in a lot of places. There are even two dive sites in Cape Town waters already called Coral Gardens, which have to be disambiguated, and there are probably others in other places. Either all the dive sites of the Cape Peninsula and False Bay keep their current name format, or they all change to this suggested alternative format. I am open to persuasion, but would prefer all the consequences to be considered first. Mainly, "What serves the reader best?" If we decide on the suggested new format, there are a couple of hundred sites to add aliases, so best to think this out thoroughly first. What could go wrong? (serious question, maybe nothing, I don't know). Cheers, • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 08:24, 23 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
