Cities list
editHi, everyone. There are 11 cities listed in this article, but according to the 7+2 rule, there should be no more than 9. Which ones are least important? Keylong seems the most obvious one to remove from the list, going by the sketchiness of the article. You can see at Wikivoyage:India Expedition/Himachal Pradesh which other cities from the list are at Outline status. I am no expert on Himachal Pradesh, but it seems to me that, based on the relative sketchiness of the articles in question, one of Kullu, Mandi or Palampur should be the other city removed from the list. However, I don't know which of these is least important for travellers to the state to know about. I will go ahead and remove Keylong from the list within 48 hours or so, unless someone objects, but we need to come to a consensus about which other city would be OK to remove. - Moved to this page, as per my comment above:
- Keylong — a small town and HQ of Lahul & Spiti district. It lies on way from Manali to Leh. Last petrol pump (gas station) of Manali-Leh highway is here, next petrol pump is at Leh, which is nearly 350 km away. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:38, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
- Does anyone have any suggestion of which of the remaining 10 listed cities to remove from the "Cities" section? Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:39, 22 March 2015 (UTC)
- Bump - any suggestions? Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:53, 9 October 2015 (UTC)
- Bump again. Should I arbitrarily remove one?? Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:30, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
Consolidating districts into larger regions
editThis state is currently divided into 12 district articles, many of them devoid of information or merely repeating information that belongs in their capital city's article. With the 40 city articles currently in existence, the 12 districts only hold an average of just over 3 cities each, and it's pretty doubtful that average will rise substantially anytime soon. 12 subdivisions is already a pretty far stretch of our 7+-2 guideline, and I'm not seeing any good justification for it in this case. Couldn't we consolidate these into about 4 regions? I don't know the state personally, but perhaps we could do something like:
- Central Himachal Pradesh - Mandi and Kullu districts = 9 cities
- Northwest Himachal Pradesh - Kangra, Una, Hamirpur, and Bilaspur districts = 13 cities
- Northeast Himachal Pradesh - Lahaul & Spiti and Kinnaru districts = 9 cities
- Southern Himachal Pradesh - Solan, Shimla, and Sirmaur districts = 9 cities
What do you think? Texugo (talk) 12:47, 10 March 2015 (UTC)
- Perhaps only 2 (east and west) would be enough as of now. 4 would be too much in my opinion. Neighbouring Jammu and Kashmir, which is large in size, has three sub-regions. If we get articles on more cities in future, the region list could be expanded accordingly.--Saqib (talk) 13:05, 10 March 2015 (UTC)
- But neighboring Jammu and Kashmir has only 19 city articles so far, while this one has already has 40. Splitting those into two roughly 20-city lists in just two region articles here would leave both lists already pretty maxed out I think. Texugo (talk) 13:37, 10 March 2015 (UTC)
- Texugo, your idea seems good to me. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:39, 22 March 2015 (UTC)

- I will implement the proposal soon. Sbb1413 (he) (talk • contribs) 08:52, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
