I'm going to start a little project to try and rescue this page. As this project progresses, please feel to add anything that might be helpful, adjust my formatting or correct any errors that you might find. Island Peak is one of the more commonly climbed trekking peaks in Nepal and it would be a shame to have this page deleted. Dave.mcc (talk) 19:16, 9 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

I agree.
Thanks for making the rescue attempt and I'm sorry that I've never done this trek and will not be able to assist. --118.93nzp (talk) 21:43, 9 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the various bits of editing and such. I'm wondering about the village called Chhukung, variously spelled. I've seen one version from a guide book I've consulted, a different version on a route map I saw elsewhere, another on a UIAA site (Chukhung) and so on. There is a Wikivoyage page for the village too. The version I've seen in two or three different sources is Chhukung. Any ideas how to resolve this? Dave.mcc (talk) 21:48, 10 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Do you mean the alternative spellings, Dave, or are you worried about "doppelgangers" being incorrectly assigned on the map? --118.93nzp (talk) 00:11, 11 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Just the various ways the village's name is spelled. We should probably pick one and stick with it, or perhaps give some of the alternatives? Not sure whose version we should pick....Dave.mcc (talk) 01:15, 11 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
I'd say, pick one version and then put in parentheses (also spelled x, y and z). If it's really important to someone else to change the "preferred" spelling, they can always edit the article later. Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:19, 11 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Since it's difficult to alter the dynamic map's in-built labels, my suggestion would be to move (ie rename) the article to that (with alternatives in parentheses as IK suggests), Dave... --118.93nzp (talk) 01:27, 11 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Sounds good to me. I was thinking about trying to be consistent with the dynamic map. I can indicate alternate spellings just in case someone gets confused. These alternate spellings seem to appear quite a lot in Nepal. Just one of the things that makes travel there so interesting  :-) Dave.mcc (talk) 01:56, 11 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Very happy with recent developments on this page. Thanks to the many contributions and edits it's starting to look like something. I'd like to find some additional information about accommodations on this trek although there are so many available.... I hope to find a good photo of Island Peak from some friends of mine to use as the banner at the top but will need some help setting that up once I get it. Yes, it is a bit weak for the "Sleep" listings. When that's rectified we can push for Star status. Do you think it's now at "Guide" status yet? --118.93nzp (talk) 21:20, 16 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
The one thing that I notice on a quick skip through that gives me pause is the lack of prices or other descriptions for most of the "Sleep" listings, which you alluded to. This article is more or less a Guide already, but adding at least prices for those listings would make me more comfortable in judging it to be one. Fair point. I will see what I can find out. I know on the Manaslu and Annapurna routes this fall, accommodation was between NPR200 and NPR400 per person but I don't have recent information on the Khumbu. I should be able to find out though. Dave.mcc (talk) 23:30, 17 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
OK - I was able to find enough information on costs to add a section. I tried to cover accommodation, food and guides/porters. I put it in a stand-alone section. See if that's the best place for it or not. The information was based on a report I was able to find from January 2013 and my experience on two different routes in Oct/Nov 2013. I will continue to seek updated, more accurate information. Dave.mcc (talk) 03:04, 18 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, Dave! --118.93nzp (talk) 03:07, 18 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
