Independence
editI believe all the necessary changes have been made to reflect Montenegrin independence:
- Add the necessary nation-state bits to Montenegro.
- Add Montenegro to Mediterranean Europe, Europe, etc.
- Change Montenegro's IsIn.
- Delete the existing redirect at Serbia and move the Serbia and Montenegro page there.
- Remove any Montenegrin content from Serbia (including recoloring the CIA map).
- Check "What links here" for Serbia and Montenegro and change the links to "Serbia", "Montenegro", or "Serbia and Montenegro", as appropriate.
- Update the IsIn for Montenegro's subarticles (which might not all be region-specific).
For the record, I left the S&M team identity for World Cup 2006 since that's technically whom they represent. There will likely be some follow-up changes dealing with immigration policies, internet TLD, maybe calling code, etc. They already use the Euro, so the currency issue is already settled. This article itself could still use some work, however. - (WT-en) Todd VerBeek 13:09, 4 June 2006 (EDT)
Land mines in Montenegro?? Is this correct? They were not involved in the Balkans wars. In October 1992, I visited Budva and went hiking (including off the trail) on the mountain overlooking the town (whose name I forget).
Stay safe
editHi people, a part of the article is at least ridicules :) – ‘land mines in Montenegro’ :)
Maybe you can review this, I can suggest something like this - “Montenegro is generally a safe country. There is, as well as other countries, an amount of criminal activities, but police forces are pretty fast in there duties. The number is 92, as well as international distress call 112.” -- OutLook
intra-country buses run on schedule
editGet around > By bus now reads:
Buses are frequent, safe and on schedule.
I have traveled frequently during a week in June 2008 from Petrovac to several destinations, and seen it most of the time that 15 to 30 min delay is common. For now I changed wording to "more or less on schedule", but we'd better find a less vague wording. What routes / types of buses were originally meant here in "Buses are ... on schedule" ? --(WT-en) DenisYurkin 16:32, 16 June 2008 (EDT)
smoking in intra-country buses
editGet around > By bus now reads:
In addition, it is common for people to smoke on a crowded bus.
We frequently saw that drivers smoke heavily on bus--but never seen that passengers do. Was it originally meant that drivers smoke, or also passengers? If the latter, at what routers passengers can be seen as smoking (or allowed to)? --(WT-en) DenisYurkin 16:32, 16 June 2008 (EDT)
Basic Words
editI'm from Montenegro and i know the Basic Words are incorect writen!
Big mistake!!!
People do however distinguish between the Serbian and Montenegrin ethnicity, Serbs forming a majority???? In 2003 census Montenegrins are majoroty 45 percent.. Serbs 32 percent of the population.
Regions
editAs Montenegro has a lot of destinations and no regions, I suggest the following scheme:
- Northern Mountains — region entirely situated within the Dinaric Alps, famous for its untouched wild nature. A must is the Tara River Canyon in Durmitor National Park.
- Central Montenegro — region with the state capital Podgorica, the historical capital Cetinje and the industrial center Nikšić.
- Bay of Kotor — considered one of the most beautiful bays of Europe, with the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Perast and Kotor.
- Budva Riviera — the main tourist drag with nice beaches, historic villages and rough nightlife
- South Coast — centered around Bar and Ulcinj, up to the natural beauty of Lake Skadar.
These could be the lowest level regions of the country immediately. I'm still figuring about the names though. South Coast, should we call that Montenegrin South Coast or Montenegro South Coast? Or maybe a completely different name, I've seen Bar-Ulcinj somewhere, but I don't think its that nice. Bar Riviera-Ulcinj Riviera could be, but again, not that nice (and maybe that would exclude the Skadar Lake). And the Northern Mountains, maybe we should change that into North Montenegrin Mountains or North Montenegro Mountains? --(WT-en) globe-trotter 18:19, 15 March 2010 (EDT)
- Whatever breakdown we choose, it's absolutely great Montenegro finally got attention of a regular contributor and editor! ;-)
- BTW, maybe you could also help on whether Skadar lake should have its own article (or where to stick info on it otherwise)? Project:Bodies of water#islands in a lake that are attractions and Project:Bodies of water#decision procedure on large lakes --(WT-en) DenisYurkin 15:56, 16 March 2010 (EDT)
- Lake Skadar is a hard call as it is at the border of the Southern Coast and Central Montenegro, but as it doesnt include any coastal activity, I think it fits best in Central Montenegro (which also boasts Lovćen National Park). I think it could have its own article, Lake Skadar National Park as it is one of the four national parks of the country. That would not cover the body of water, but the national park surrounding it. --(WT-en) globe-trotter 16:29, 16 March 2010 (EDT)
- In case we have an article for national park surrounding the lake--will it also cover all info on what's on the lake itself (i.e. islands; attractions on the lake's coasts etc)? --(WT-en) DenisYurkin 16:36, 16 March 2010 (EDT)
- Lake Skadar doesn't have many islands, but yes they would fall under it as well :) --(WT-en) globe-trotter 16:46, 16 March 2010 (EDT)
- OK, so here the map and the corresponding regions. Comments please before I implement it :) --(WT-en) globe-trotter 15:21, 28 March 2010 (EDT)
Cities list
editThere are ten of them, when there should be a maximum of nine. Which one shall we remove? Having been to Montenegro just once, m̶y̶ ̶v̶o̶t̶e̶ ̶i̶s̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶e̶i̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ ̶U̶l̶c̶i̶n̶j̶ ̶o̶r̶ ̶Ž̶a̶b̶j̶a̶k̶. The others definitely all deserve a place on the national list. --ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 12:15, 17 December 2017 (UTC)
- Or actually Herceg Novi. It's very close to both Tivat and Kotor, but not as significant as a travel destination, and the article is only an outline, contrary to the aforementioned Ulcinj and Žabjak. --ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 12:18, 17 December 2017 (UTC)
