Oxfordshire Way: Suggested Accommodation and Refreshment Guide

edit

Hi, everyone. Is it acceptable under the external links policy to list this free guide [1] from the Oxfordshire government? I would have thought that, while it's obviously acceptable to link to any general official Oxfordshire site, it is not OK to link to a subsite that has a directory, and instead, the listings in it should be inserted here (though not copied and pasted). Your input, please. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:24, 27 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

I didn't copy the listings for several reasons: (a) I didn't have time; (b) I wasn't sure if it would constitute a copyright violation; (c) I have no personal experience of most of the establishments listed; (d) the OCC list is presumably maintained (new establishments added, old ones removed) so a link seemed sensible. I'm fairly new here (though not to Wikipedia) so I'm not familiar with all the policies and conventions. Dave.Dunford (talk) 09:47, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your reply. It makes sense, but I would like to see what others have to say. The only point on which I would demur is copyright violation. Merely listing places to stay that are listed elsewhere is not copyright violation, as long as the descriptions of the places are not copied and pasted. But I take your other points.
