Copied from WT
editDo we still accept further copying from WT like this, knowing it won't have the same attribution at the bottom of the page as all the other stuff we imported? Texugo (talk) 12:54, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
- Is there probably a possibility to have a special template/mark for that which can be added manually? I made quite some work on WT recently and thought of porting it here partly at least. (I am the one who made the first edit in this article; registered just now). AntonBryl (talk) 13:10, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
- WV:Wikivoyage and Wikitravel says:
- Legally, content from Wikitravel can be used on Wikivoyage as long as the conditions of relevant copyright licenses are complied with. Internet Brands has confirmed that the content of Wikitravel is under a CC BY-SA license. However, as Internet Brands and the WMF have engaged in litigation, please discuss before moving content from Wikitravel to Wikivoyage. If you do move anything, be very careful to comply fully with the license terms regarding attribution.
- So this does need to be discussed. I don't know if having a special template for this would be a good solution, as we want to discourage this as much as possible and are actually working to minimize existing attribution links to WT to the extent possible. I am hoping some other users will join in this conversation because I don't really have an answer. Texugo (talk) 13:32, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
- I have brought this up in the pub here. Hopefully we'll get an answer together. Texugo (talk) 13:53, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks! I tried alternative approach with Lida, basically rewriting the article anew & adding some more data & clarifications. But that's a slower way to be sure :) AntonBryl (talk) 13:54, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
- Perhaps the key question is whether you can take your own original unaltered contributions there (not including any changes made by other users) and use them again here without attributing WT. I think this should be possible, but I want to make sure. Texugo (talk) 13:59, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
- The original author can always re-use his/her material without attributing other sites where it's been previously posted, but indeed, without changes by others. If you do include changes by others, you should properly attribute those users. In principle, WT as a site never has to be attributed, but the source page often is mentioned because it's a good way to ensure proper author attribution. Again though, your own work you can just re-use. Preferably you should somehow link your user names on both sites so it's clear that you are the original author. Article name
editI would like to point out that so far Wikivoyage used Russian names for the cities in Belarus. No politics behind it, just a matter of consistency. We wrote Vitebsk rather than Vitsebsk, so it should be Polotsk and not Polatsk. If you want to change this style, please, raise the issue at the discussion page, but I think it is easier to keep using Russian names, because English Wikipedia does the same. --Alexander (talk) 14:00, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
- Plz feel free to move it if that's the policy. The (red) link on the region page said 'Polatsk', I just followed it and created the article. AntonBryl (talk) 14:09, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
- No, it's not a policy, just a matter of style. I will move this one as well as Braslav. --Alexander (talk) 14:14, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
