Talk:Rail travel in Switzerland

Status

This is currently rated at "outline" (the default). What do you think would be necessary to upgrade this to "usable"? I think we have already covered most of the bases, right? Hobbitschuster (talk) 15:18, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

I think there is definitely some room for improvement. For instance I'm not sure whether the structure of the article is very good, but as of now I haven't managed to come up with anything better. Then of course a banner would be nice. But according to Wikivoyage:Travel_topic_status neither of those are necessary for a "usable" article. I marked it as "outline" merely because I am not very familiar with the standards required for travel topic articles as this is the first one I have worked on. To Guide and FTT

What do you think would be needed to get this to guide and "in the pipeline" as a potential featured travel topic (given there are no other rail related articles that preempt it) Hobbitschuster (talk) 17:07, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

I don't have much experience with the criteria for travel topics. Most of the content of this page was moved over from the Switzerland article a while ago, so it might not be that well adapted to be stand-alone article, but overall I think this is quite an extensive and well-rounded overview on the topic. I can only think of a few improvements that could be made:

• The travel cards section could be extended a bit, especially I think there should be a better description of the Swiss Travel Pass, which can be a bit tricky in it's formalities and where to buy it etc, and it should also mention the other options especially catered to tourists (such as the Transfer ticket).
• The 'information for rail fans' section could be expanded quite a bit in my opinion. Trains are big in Switzerland and I'm sure there is more to see for railway fans than just those train lines.
• There is a bit of mismatch between this article and the main Switzerland article. The Switzerland articles refers to this article as Public transport in Switzerland, whereas this one is mostly only on rail. So should we expand this to include buses and boats, or should we remodel the get around section in the main Switzerland article to have a separate section on 'By train', 'By boat', 'By bus'?

Does it need a "Understand" section? According to Wikivoyage:Article_templates/Sections this is only recommended for destination articles. Drat70 (talk) 09:47, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

We have de facto come to use them in most travel topics and also use other destination article style sections where they make sense. Hobbitschuster (talk) 09:55, 12 April 2017 (UTC)
