Taverns listings edit

If it's OK to list these:

  • Finnegan's in Renfrew
  • The Lasso in Pembroke

Why is it not OK to list this?

  • Wilno Tavern in Wilno[1]

The context is

"Bars known for hosting live country and rock music are:"

If you look at Wilno Tavern's site, they do host country music. So I think they should be listed, or perhaps none should be?

It should be listed they have the best live music in the area, its mostly known for its live shows.

Really there should just be an overview here, with the individual listings in the city article containing the details. (WT-en) texugo 05:33, 22 April 2011 (EDT)

Ottawa Valley edit

We did have an article there, which was unfortunately rather touty and needed editing. It has now been redirected here.

No! The region name should be the Ottawa Valley. I'm from Ottawa; that is the name I know and that I would expect visitors to hear. Also, the region is somewhat broader than just Renfrew County.

As I see it, it is debatable whether we need the county article at all — I'm inclined to think not, but I'm not certain. However, it is obvious we should have something for the better-known region. Pashley (talk) 14:31, 16 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. Because Ottawa Valley technically already exists with an edit history (even if it's worthless CVB spam) it will be necessary to ask an admin to take that page out and shoot it in order to make way for a move of Renfrew CountyOttawa Valley. The other option would be to actually write a new page about the valley itself.
I've tried to rewrite and reorganise eastern Ontario#Regions a bit as the counties are indeed useless - most contain either nothing (an empty article template) or just a list of villages. Something like Leeds-Grenville makes no sense as a subregion as it is Gananoque (which is Kingston-adjacent) to Kemptville (which is Ottawa-adjacent). Put Gan in K'town and Kemptville in Bytown, they geographically have nothing much in common. K7L (talk) 14:55, 16 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
I agree it should be called Ottawa Valley, as well. As long as you don't mind waiting a bit, I can take care of the deletion tonight when I get home. It's done now (it's Friday, I'll just be later for work).
Does the Ottawa Valley article stretch to include a place like Bancroft, which is in northern Hastings County but has much more in common with the highlands part of the Ottawa Valley? -Shaundd (talk) 15:16, 16 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
I've changed the lead to mention Ottawa Valley first, then Renfrew County and moved the page. I'm a little hesitant to include Bancroft as Hastings is Belleville (Ontario), although it's not going to be a clear fit anywhere as the beaten-path regions will either follow the Ottawa River (and the Trans-Canada Highway) or the Great Lakes/St. Lawrence seaway (along the Windsor-Quebec corridor and the US border). Bancroft is inland and not near much of anything except maybe Algonquin Park. K7L (talk) 15:58, 16 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Highways edit

Current text has "Highway 60 from the west and highway 17 (the Trans-Canada Highway) from the northwest and southeast form the main routes in the region." What about 7, 15, and 416?

I think it depends on the boundaries of the region and I'm not entirely sure what they are right now. Currently, I think the region starts at Arnprior and heads northwest up the Ottawa River and west to include Renfrew Country. Should it include Ottawa, as well? There's a related discussion about subregions for Eastern Ontario currently going on at Talk:Eastern Ontario. If you have any thoughts, please jump in. -Shaundd (talk) 15:54, 17 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
Including Arnprior would be just enough to include 417 (which runs east-west from the Québec border to Arnprior) but would not include 416 (which runs north from Prescott-Ogdensburg to Bells Corners, Ottawa-Nepean). 15 *used* to end at Arnprior, but its numbering was changed back to 29 when that piece was demoted to county road status in 1998. Seven is likely too far south (Perth). K7L (talk) 02:57, 21 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
