Talk:Twin Cities

So, I moved this from Twin Cities (Minnesota), because I thought Twin Cities was unambiguous. If someone can think of another Twin Cities, we can add back in the disambiguator. We don't need it if it's not ambiguous; see article naming conventions for details.

Also: I'm wondering about the relationship between this article and Minneapolis and St. Paul. In my mind, I think that Twin Cities should just be the city article for both, and we don't need articles for each city. The two are so intertwined that I don't see a point having an article for each. Alternately, we could have an article for each, and reduce Twin Cities to just a region article page. Yeah, I was at a bit of a loss for how to handle the Twin Cities. The idea I had come up with was to do the Twin Cities focused a bit more on the suburbs, with just a few highlights from Minneapolis and Saint Paul. Move back to disambig

I do not think "Twin Cities" is unique, except perhaps in a US context.

In Canada, Fort William and Port Arthur used to be called the twin cities, though more often just "the Lakehead". They have now been combined into Thunder Bay but I do not know if the old term has entirely fallen out of use.

There are lots of other places where the term might apply, pairs like Buda and Pest or Prescott and Ogdensburg. Pashley (talk) 15:44, 1 March 2014 (UTC)

I presume you mean Prescott (Ontario)-Ogdensburg and Cornwall-Massena, not Prescott? The latter is in Arizona. Pest is also a disambig.

There's also the whole "twin towns" shtick, where Nantes (Québec) and Nantes (France) or some similar arbitrary pair will be "twinned" as sister cities for cultural or diplomatic exchange. K7L (talk) 14:30, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
