Remains of eyewitnesses?

What does this mean?

Of the Roman eyewitnesses, not much has remained because of strong building activity

I would expect that not much remains of the witnesses because they've been dead for close to 2,000 years. Should this say guard towers or something? Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:58, 9 November 2019 (UTC)

Poetic but not so clear. I'd say "There are few visible relics of Roman times on this route (or wherever) because most have been replaced by new buildings", or something like that. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:35, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
