Talk:Yakutsk

I realize I may be out of luck on this one, but if anyone ever comes across a free open-content map source, or free open-content satellite image of Yakutsk, I'd really like to make a map for this article. If you happen to own a source for a map of Yakutsk, please consider licensing it under a CC-by-SA license, and contacting me so I can use it. A map is just about all this article needs to become a star! --(WT-en) Peter Talk 20:55, 23 August 2008 (EDT)

OSM now has the data for me to create the map, and I've found a website to help me place addresses [1]. This is going to be tough to make, but it will be worth it to star this article. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 14:36, 23 February 2011 (EST)
And remarkably, we now have maps for Yakutsk! Some more polishing, hunting down missing details, and fixing up a proper buy section, and this will be a star. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 21:36, 22 June 2011 (EDT)

Questions

edit

Good article, but I have questions. It says 62 North, but "enjoy the White Nights when the sun never sets". I thought midnight sun was only above arctic circle, so 67 North. Also, why is there no mention of the Northern Lights? They would be lovely at that latitude, I think. (WT-en) Pashley 05:17, 11 November 2008 (EST)

Above 60 N or so, the sun does technically speaking set (going below the horizon), but there is still so much reflected light that it never gets dark -- hence White Nights. True Midnight Sun is, as you state, only above 67 N. (WT-en) Jpatokal 10:24, 11 November 2008 (EST)

Kolyma Highway

edit

I recently hitch-hiked the length of the Kolyma highway, and I'm about to plunge forward and update/fix/write a LOT of information about this rather under-represented area of the world for wikivoyage. If you have any questions, message me through my profile. With regards to this article, I think the section on 'the other road' is funny but not accurate, so will be fixing it first. Listings instead of markers

edit

There are some listings in flowing text where usually there'd be markers. I guess that wouldn't be a problem, but the asterisk is ugly Hobbitschuster (talk) 13:37, 26 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
