Sartorial experience
editDrinkers looking for a more sartorial experience are advised to check out bars in Zakynthos town. So, do they have tailors in these bars? --(WT-en) Evan 13:30, 5 March 2006 (EST)
Is there meant to be so much company advertising in a Wikivoyage article ... ?
- Wikivoyage is for the traveller and not for the tout. Feel free to plunge forward and fix anything that lies outside of policy. I've tidied some stuff up. --(WT-en) Inas 22:06, 15 February 2009 (EST)
Merge and Redirect
editThere were 2 articles for this destination, listed as "Zakinthos" and "Zakynthos". I think this is the more commonly used spelling so I've redirected "Zakinthos" to point here, after having moved across a couple of things that were listed on that article and not this one. Discussion of whether the entries in the "Sleep" section should all be deleted
editThis discussion is copied from User talk:94.64.150.97 and User talk:Ikan Kekek for the purpose of reaching a consensus, so please comment on the content of our discussion:
Hi. Was there a specific reason why you blanked the entire "Sleep" section of the Zakynthos article? I could understand if you moved all the listings to guides for individual towns within the island and then deleted them at the island-wide level, or if you deleted touty entries, but do tell us if you actually had specific plans that could explain your action. Thanks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:23, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
I blanked it because
Don't tout. Wikivoyage is a site for travelers, not for marketing, and promotional listings will be removed. This guideline identifies ways for businesses to contribute constructively. In particular, please do not ever add more than one listing for a business. —The preceding comment was added by User:Manoli (talk • contribs)
- I just did a lot of detouting. Look now. Deleting the entire sleep section is overly extreme, in my view. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:49, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
Hi Ikan If everybody will leave advertisings for some villas or apartments, the sleep section will be filled with advertising spam. The whole sleep section is a copy and paste product. The same you will find here:
http://www.todaytourism.com/travel-guides/Zakynthos-travel-guide.html?section=Sleep
and under other URL's
[...]Have a look for Exemple to wikivoyage "Mallorca" - there is no adveretising spam in the sleep section. If they start there the same it will filled up with thousands of entrys. —The preceding comment was added by User:Manoli (talk • contribs)
- Thanks. The link to the Zakynthos Sleep site does persuade me that you have a good argument for deleting all the "Sleep" entries in the Zakynthos article, but the mere fact that entries are listed in multiple places is no proof that they are not worthy of being listed (although, obviously, copyright violation is an issue). So in order to reach a consensus, which consists of more than two people having a discussion, I will copy and paste this discussion to Talk:Zakynthos.[...]Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:04, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
- Everyone, please comment on the issues of whether evident copyvio and arguable touting justify nuking all entries from the "Sleep" section en masse. Thanks, everyone! Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:11, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
Listings look the same here and on todaytourism.com (and probably several other places) because they were copied from the same source - WT. They are pretty touty but some of them should stay. Jjtk (talk) 20:16, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
- Hi! I checked earlier discussions and i suggest that we take Koh Samui as a role model. No sleeping listings in the main article (except rare cases where there is no local article) and we break them down in the beach/town articles. jan (talk) 10:09, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
- Also there is no consensus on Apartment listings. I would oppose them as it is hard to see the real houses and there is an abundance of hotels. jan (talk) 10:10, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
- That sounds good to me, Jan. Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:01, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
