Tanguá is a municipality of the Grande Niterói region, a portion of the region of Grande Rio, in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

Understand

edit

Tanguá is a municipality located in the eastern portion of the metropolitan area of Rio de Janeiro. Until 1995, it was a district belonging to the municipality of Itaboraí, when it was emancipated, becoming a municipality itself. However, Tanguá still maintains strong ties with the neighboring Itaboraí, especially with regard to the commuting of its population.

The municipality is crossed by the BR-101 highway, vector through which the urban expansion of the metropolis reached Tanguá and continued to Rio Bonito - the easternmost municipality of the Rio's metropolitan agglomeration -, where it ended. Tanguá is, therefore, the penultimate municipality of the East Metropolitan Axis of Rio de Janeiro (Eixo Leste Metropolitano do Rio de Janeiro) along the vector of the BR-101 highway.
