Template talk:Israel trail mark
Use of this template
editI've created this template for use in articles about Israeli hiking trails. All popular trails in Israel are marked with these signs. Since they're unfamiliar to travelers from abroad, I believe it would be useful to include graphical demonstrations of these markings in articles about hiking trails. Examples of usage can be found at Judaean Desert#Do. Note that an equivalent template is in wide use at the Hebrew Wikivoyage, for example here.
Most image names in the template are currently in Hebrew. I'll fix this in the near future by copying or moving these images into an English name. In any case, this does not affect the usage of the template (the parameter values are still to be written in English).
Are there any specific criteria this template has to meet in order for the {{Experimental}} tag to be removed? Or just a proof-of-concept? Tamuz (talk) 10:33, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
- I think that after more than half a year with no answer to your question and no objections or problems to its use, it's time to remove the experimental tag, eh? --118.93nzp (talk) 10:35, 6 February 2014 (UTC)
- I can't see any reason why not. Does anyone object? If so, why? Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:53, 6 February 2014 (UTC)
- Is there a reason this needs to be a special set named only for Israel trails and not a more universal, all-purpose set or part thereof, that could be used for any trail map? Texugo (talk) 11:12, 6 February 2014 (UTC)
- Yes.
- Our colours mimic the harmonised set used nationally in Israel.
- It's easier for the walker if what they see on the ground matches our itineraries.
- Different colours are used in different countries. Where there is a national scheme of colours, our markers should probably reflect that. You can take harmonisation between articles too far to the point that it is not in the travellers interests because it reduces clarity of exposition. --118.93nzp (talk) 01:43, 7 February 2014 (UTC)
- I didn't suggest changing the colors. Just that we have a single all-purpose {{trail marker}} template to which other colors could be added as necessary. There's no reason to set ourselves up to where we need to create separate templates for every country, park, or region with trails to be marked — most places don't have a pre-established color scheme anyway and can thus reuse colors from other places. - So, let's be clear: you're objecting to the experimental tag being removed so this template can be used on more than one low-visibilty article? --118.93nzp (talk) 02:05, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
