Fayette County is in the Pittsburgh Region of Pennsylvania. It is located in southwestern Pennsylvania along the West Virginia border.

Brownsville - Formerly a major city in the Monongahela River Valley.

Connellsville - Small city at base of the Appalachians.

Masontown - River town in west-central Fayette County.

Pt. Marion - Small town at the confluence of the Monongahela and Cheat Rivers.

Uniontown - Historical city near the mountains. Hub of Fayette County.

Get in

Since the primary method of transportation in the county is by automobile, a traveler would most likely enter the city via highway. Some great ways to get to Fayette County would be via U.S. Route 40, "The National Road", or PA Route 711, which winds its way down the Appalachian Mountains from the east into Connellsville.

Get around

Most traveling in Fayette County must be done by automobile. There is bus service in the County known as Fayette Area Coordinated Transport (FACT). However, FACT consists of mostly intracity bus routes connecting rural parts of the county to the cities of Connellsville and Uniontown. FACT also provides transportation outside the county to places like Morgantown, WV, and Pittsburgh.

There are no interstate highways in Fayette County; however, there are several important regional highways in the county. U.S. Route 40 and PA Route 21 are the main east-west highways, and U.S. Route 119 and PA 43 (Mon-Valley Expressway, incomplete) are the major north-south routes.

Fayette County is a very historic county that offers many sites to see. Historic landmarks abound in the County and are easy to find. From historic roads (The National Road) to the estates of important Americans of the past (Friendship Hill the home of Albert Gallatin) to French and Indian War battlefields (Fort Necessity), there are bountiful places for the historian to visit.

For those who love natural beauty, Fayette County is a wonderful place to be. The western front of the Appalachian Mountains runs through the center of the county making Fayette County one of the more scenic areas in Western Pennsylvania.

Exceptional architecture is also easy to find in Fayette County. It is home to two of Frank Lloyd Wright's most famous works. Also, downtown Uniontown is the home of the Fayette Building, which, at the time it was built, was the tallest building between the Appalachian Mountains and Chicago.

Morgantown, West Virginia - Often referred to as the University City, this is an important retail, industrial and entertainment center easily accessible to Fayette County.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - Only 50 miles from Uniontown, Pittsburgh is a major city near Fayette County.
