Sydney Central Station is the main railway hub for both Sydney and the broader New South Wales train network. It is the only station to have trains to all mainland Australian state capitals plus Canberra.

Services

edit

There are several different sections of Central Station, each for different purposes.

  • Platforms 1–14 – Sydney Terminal
    • 1–3 – regional NSW TrainLink booked services. Journey Beyond's Indian Pacific also usually departs from this section. There are no Opal gates in this section.
    • 4–12 – regional Intercity trains (on Opal network), occasionally some peak hour trains and special event Sydney Olympic Park services.
  • Platforms 16–23 – suburban above-ground platforms
  • Platforms 24–27 – underground platforms
    • 24–25 – T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line ( T4 ) and South Coast Line ( SCO )
    • 26–27 – M1 Metro Northwest & Bankstown Line ( M1 )

All of Sydney's three inner city light rail lines (L1, L2 and L3) make stops at Central. L1 platforms are closer to the intercity platforms, whereas L2 and L3 (they share the same tracks) are to the east of the suburban platforms. Both are well clearly signposted.
