Manly to North Head Walk

South shared section

  1. Starting at North Fort, there is two different routes, one for walkers, and the other is for bikes. The walking one is more steep, but also shorter, while the one for bikes is longer, but less steep, and occasionally uses National Park roads, although those are free to use.
  2. Head west, onto a small narrow path, occasionally with the sides covered with bush at times. You should pass the Third Quarantine Cemetery (note that there is only one cemetery. The "third" is for "the third class" citizens back in those days when isolating at modern day Q station.
  3. Here is where it splits up, and the next sections cover that.

Middle section - bike

  1. Head straight, and onto the path where it says bike track, and continue on. Keep going, and after about going for about 800m, and when you see the road (St Barbaras Ave), keep going. The road is even smaller than your residential street.
  2. At the end of the road, turn left onto North Fort Road, which is also smaller than the ordinary American urban street.
  3. This section will now be shared.

Middle section - walk

edit
  1. When you see the sign that says to go straight for bike track, turn right. There will be a sign there guiding you the way to Manly.
  2. Go up the very steep stair like path, towards Northern Lookout
  3. After about 300m, you will have the choice of going to Northern Lookout, which has some really picturesque views of Sydney Harbour and the bridge.
  4. After the lookout, continue on, and after a few hundred metres or so, turn left. There will be clear signs pointing you here, but be warned that this section isn't wheelchair friendly at all.
  5. Continue on until the end of the walk, and then turn left onto North Fort Road. Be aware that this section is quite steep, so if you want a simpler walk, then use the bike path.
  6. Keep going straight on North Fort Road passing St Barbaras Ave.
