Welcome

edit

DD: welcome to Wikivoyage. I hope you enjoy yourself and you find all the info you need to contribute. If you have any problems, let me know. -- (WT-en) Evan 15:47, 6 Aug 2003 (PDT)

Hi! Glad you could make it :) (WT-en) KJ

Hi DD. Good to see you here. Broome, Geikie Gorge and Purnululu were great as were the places in between and beyond (like Kununurra). I added some more to wikipedia on my return. I made a momentous discovery on our trip - the worst roadhouse in Australia is not Caiguna, it is at Turkey Creek. (WT-en) Tiles 21:21, 9 Aug 2003 (PDT)

Falling trucks

edit

Hi DD. This is an update email I received from Manapouri on the "falling trucks" sign:

"Subject: RE: picture of "beware of falling trucks" sign

You're not going to believe this - the bloody thing was reported stolen today! We are on the case tho' and will hopefully head it off at the pass. Watch this space." (WT-en) Tiles 20:11, 7 Oct 2003 (PDT)

Administrator nomination

edit

So, I just nominated you for admin status. You might want to comment on this, just to say if you're interested or not. -- (WT-en) Evan 09:23, 6 Nov 2003 (PST)

Death Valley

edit

Hello Dhum Dhum, I am working on the Death Valley site withour a template reference and would really like some feedback about style, layout, content etc. if you get a chance. Thanks. (WT-en) Ron 10:45, 11 Nov 2003 (PST)

So is this more along the right lines? Death Valley Thanks in advance for taking a look!(WT-en) Ron 13:34, 12 Nov 2003 (PST)

Admin

edit

Dhum Dhum: you got updated as an admin. You should make sure you log out and log back in again so that all the fancy-pants features for admins will be enabled. None of them are well documented, but you should get the picture. Of course, don't delete or protect pages except according to policies and guidelines, but you knew that. If you have any questions, let me know. -- (WT-en) Evan 10:15, 14 Nov 2003 (PST)

Main Page

edit

So, I wanted to say thanks for such a great job on the Main Page. It looks really good and well layed-out. (P.S. to Maj: you did a great job, too!) It's a good example of the Wiki way of getting things done... bit by bit, lots of conflict and consensus. Thanks for putting up with the backseat driving! --(WT-en) Evan 12:56, 28 Nov 2003 (PST)

Hey thanks for giving me some feedback on the Main Page! Glad you liked the colors-- I'm not really much of design person, so it's nice to get the feedback. (WT-en) Majnoona

Take a break

edit

Amigo, it's entirely reasonable to take a break, especially if you've got some fundamental questions about where we're going. It's much more mature than starting a big flamewar, calling people nasty names, etc., and then regretting it later -- I'm impressed.

The only thing I ask, as a personal favor, is that you at least come back to give some kind of summary to your thoughts. Of course, what I'd really prefer is that you come back, we work out the problem, and you continue to be the bedrock of this community! But if you can't, I think it would help us out a lot to have a fuller idea of what you think is wrong here. --(WT-en) Evan 13:38, 9 Dec 2003 (PST)

Welcoming Kokiri

Thanks for doing this! I wish more folks would do welcomes. --(WT-en) Evan 14:57, 23 Dec 2003 (PST)

Disambiguation

edit

So, I moved the disambig policy back to the Project:article naming conventions, since I think that's where it belongs. I made a Project:disambiguation pages article, which is specificially about disambig pages.

I think I see your point with disambiguation. Say, when we have this situation:

  • Slobovia <country>
    • Elmwood <region>
      • Elmwood <city>
  • Freedonia <country>
    • Elmwood <region>
      • Elmwood <city>

It's hard to disambig "Elmwood" in this situation without resorting to using both the level and the container in the disambiguator (city in Freedonia, city in Slobovia, region of Slobovia, region of Freedonia). So, I agree with this principle for a rule #3, which I think is what you did.

I'm having a harder time seeing your problems with La Rioja, etc. Is it that the disambiguators are coming out differently than you would do by hand? If so, can you try to analyze what you would do, and come up with some rules for doing it across the board?

I know that I'm really annoyingly picky about rules, but I really prefer having a good rule to refer to, rather than what seems "obviously" right.

Thanks for digging into this stuff, by the way. It's pretty hard. --(WT-en) Evan 14:46, 28 Dec 2003 (PST)

Wellington

edit

Hi DD I would like to use your panorama of Wellington (from Wikipedia) in the Wellington article. Of course I could take a 20 minute drive to Kelburn and take a picture of the same scene, have the film developed, scan it in and upload it. But your picture is sitting on my desktop awaiting your permission. (WT-en) Tiles 18:49, 31 Dec 2003 (PST)

Hi Tiles, I'm glad you like the picture. There's no problem, it can be added to Wikivoyage under the Attribution-ShareAlike 1.0 license. BTW, a happy new year! (WT-en) DhDh 00:40, 1 Jan 2004 (PST)
Hi DD, the panorama is now in place. Happy New Year to you. I'm heading for Hyderabad on the 13th so might be able to expand the India section when I get back. (WT-en) Tiles 23:53, 1 Jan 2004 (PST)
