Create Account rejected

My choice of username "Loby" was rejected because 'there is already a user with that name'. I went to the User list page and put in "Lobx" in group '(all)' to search from. The first given is "Loby52". Can you think of a reason why this got rejected? Loby 04:49, 23 December 2023 (UTC)

No, I can't think of a reason. There is no User:Loby on this wiki. Are you sure you tried to register that username on Wikivoyage, not another wiki? Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:54, 23 December 2023 (UTC)
Am about to try again in case I got the wrong one. Will let you know. Loby 04:58, 23 December 2023 (UTC)
It is Wikivoyage. I went to top right of this page for 'Create account'. Got "Username entered already in use. Please choose a different name." from the first field before going to Password. A 'bug' somewhere? Loby 05:03, 23 December 2023 (UTC)
Usernames are checked against all SUL-connected wikis (e.g., Wikipedia), not just this one. Special:CentralAuth/Loby says there is a User:Loby at the Greek Wikipedia. You could create an account (i.e., with a different username) and file a request at m:USURP to change your username to Loby. This process would take at least 30 days, and they might not agree to it, but it is possible that they would approve the change. WhatamIdoing (talk) 05:17, 23 December 2023 (UTC)
Understood. Will give that a go. Will invent an alternative in case they say no. Loby 05:23, 23 December 2023 (UTC)

Okay. You would need to make that edit at Wikidata, not here. The link is d:Q353992, and you want to edit the English-language "Description" in the first section of the page. These descriptions are shared across all the projects, so whatever you write needs to work for everyone. WhatamIdoing (talk) 06:14, 28 December 2023 (UTC)

Understand edit

The Hills continue to the south into the Fleurieu Peninsula and to the north to the Barossa Valley

History edit

The Adelaide Hills are the southern end of the Adelaide Rift Complex with the Flinders Ranges being the northern part. Created when present day Australia was being formed, they forced the Murray River to take a sharp left turn at Morgan towards Lake Alexandrina and the Coorong National Park.

Earthquakes continue but only a few are large enough to be noticed by other than scientific instruments.

The River Torrens flows through the Hills on its way to the Adelaide Parklands and shows what even a small river can do given long enough, forming the gorge now containing Kangaroo Creek Reservoir and Gorge Road.

Sub-divisions edit

The part of the Hills (the Hills Face Zone) has limits on new buildings to keep an undeveloped look from the Adelaide metropolitan area. A few suburbs such as Belair with the Belair National Park are on the western side of the Hills.

Near to the SE Freeway are a few towns: Mt Barker, Stirling for example that are increasingly home to Adelaide workers.

Elsewhere there are vineyards, sheep, cattle and alpacas with some forestry. None of the towns throughout the area are large.

Stay safe edit

Bushfires can occur during the hot, dry summers. The CFS issues a daily map of Fire Danger Ratings and a frequently updated map of current incidents. On a day classified as 'Catastrophic', most venues will be closed so stay away, and on an 'Extreme' day it is wise not to travel in the Hills. Do not be a Disaster Tourist.
