That's some pretty fancy verse. Clever too. Yeah, I don't know what caused me to think about it, although, I was discussing a past Halloween memory with someone recently. That might be what caused me to remember it. The memory I was discussing was about dressing up as some gruesome looking dead person, which, I did an excellent job doing, especially with the blending of makeups. Anyhow, I decided to go home after a short while and stood next to my mother for the rest of the night as she passed out candy. One little girl, who couldn't have been more than ten or so came up to my mom and did the whole "trick or treat" thing. Then, she glanced over at me and asked my mom "is that real?" My mother replied no as I stood very,very still. The girl yelled at her father to come down and look at this thing my mother 'made'. He didn't come and she got up very close to my face, inspecting me. She turned around and said something to her father and turned back around to me ready to 'attack' her. I will never forget how she booked it out of there, dropping candy everywhere and screaming. It was the funniest reaction I have ever witnessed. Her father thought it was funny too because as soon as she saw her screaming he doubled over laughing so hard he could barely stand.

We gave her a few extra pieces of candy to make up for the terror and nightmares she is probably still having. ;)

No, they don't celebrate it in Poland they have something similar to the Hispanic "All Saints' Day", but no where near as elaborate as that or Halloween. -- (WT-en) Sapphire • (Talk) • 08:56, 30 September 2007 (EDT)

Yeah, I heard about the Bungles on CNN. Makes me cry. We're 1-3 this season! WTF!? Ok, calm down. At least I didn't catch any of the game so I'm not as upset as I could be (like last week). Luckily, I was really impressed with Boston last August, so I don't want to see it destroyed like I do with Pittsburgh.

In truth, I don't like blocks, despite my sometimes hardline rhetoric.

I block only when it seems like there is an undue amount of spam and I try to measure the likeliness of it to continue in the coming minutes and hours, the time, and whether or not I can dedicate any extra time to fighting it.

If there is so much spam I can't keep up, I blacklist the biggest culprits (urls), might block a few IPs for a couple hours or a day so I can look at their "contributions" and blacklist any other relevant urls. When I do block it's because of the time (say, 3AM EST/EDT) and I'm not sure whether or not any other admins will likely be around soon enough to help ward off the attacks and I cannot dedicate any more time to fighting spammers, but that's the exception, not the rule. -- (WT-en) Sapphire • (Talk) • 16:50, 2 October 2007 (EDT)

Nazca

Well, in general I view Travel Agents under the Avoid linking to secondary sources rule in Project:External links. Since they are selling hotels rooms, flights, tours, etc. without owning hotels, airplanes, or tourbuses, they aren't the primary sources. Anyone who calls themselves a travel agent is probably going to be blanket reverted by me. But at least one of the reverts should have had an explanation -- my bad.

A tour operator could pass the primary source test.. but only if they actually give the tour themselves. Peru articles get more toutvertising in them so I've tried to keep down anything that is not clearly a primary.

And speaking of annoying primary sources.... the Epoque hotel guys are annoying as hell, but if they really are the hotel owners, then they are primary and it's okay for them to add listings -- at least to the city the hotel resides in. Decatur (Georgia)

• Thanks for the suggestion on furniture stores. That is one of several items that may require some editing/discussion. Two points: 1) Antique stores are a retail destination for vistors/tourists in the south and midwest (ie, Brown County, Indiana); and 2) Atlanta is a destination for shopping in the southeast (Phipps Plaza, Lenox Square, Merchandise Mart, etc.). Decatur's "new" furniture stores are somewhat unique. Contemporary loft furnishings (and Asian to a lesser extent) are less likely to be available in smaller metro areas - at least in the South. If you these are marginal entries, let me know and we can edit them. A few of these entries are arguably more beneficial to "new residents" rather than "tourists". Vandalism policy?

I don't know about you folks (I'm sending the same message to several), but I for one am getting sick and tired of the intentional vandalism that's going on here. I am trying to start a discussion on Project:Community policies as to whether something more forceful needs to be in place to deal with it. Historically, we have bent far over backwards to avoid punitive action against vandals and have simply gone in and cleaned up the messes they create. However, the frequency of vandalism is growing, and I am not convinced that we are doing Wikivoyage a service by tolerating it. This said, I'm not at all sure what the "right" response is.

I couldn't find your e-mail address after looking in the "toolbox" but I have to say that I am impressed. Yesterday I started the Montville, NJ page (I am a resident) and I was shocked that it was already changed a bit. Especially by someone not even from these parts. NASCAR

Just a comment. Although I do not follow NASCAR, due to my interest in NHRA when I was young and CART when I was looking for something to do with my sons, I developed an appreciation for what racing can do for a local economy. Rooms fill up, restaraunts do a booming business and lots of gasoline is purchased by thousands of visitors, just for starters. NASCAR has an interesting history, starting with moonshine runners. The availability of large tracts of land to buy cheaply for race tracks in the south and mid-west have made for spectacular tracks for these events. When I contibute to WT, I try to add things in a way that creates an interest in things I have done, that may appeal to a vistor who has never been to the subject destination. So, what's my point? I think WT needs to give as much attention to racing in the US as, say baseball. If you look at a baseball game and then compare the crowd at a NASCAR event, you will find a much bigger crowd at the NASCAR event usually, baseball is now a TV sport for spectators. Americans seem to be interested in all sorts of racing, from cars, to boats, horses, dogs, motorcyles, even lawn mowers. In my limited travel outside of the US, I notice few, but some race tracks. Here again, my point is, if we are trying to give a visitor to the US a taste of new things to do, racing should be include. However, maybe not in specific articles like a NASCAR itinerary, but a more general article. Any comments? (WT-en) 2old 12:16, 24 November 2007 (EST)

Connecticut Outdoor Adventure

Considering that I added all of the content (written in the Outdoor Adventure section of Connecticut on WikiTravel) using Connecticut Explorer's Guide (www.CTXGuide.com) as an external link to referance the material, I think the link should stay.

If referencing content has somehow become out of fashion, please let me know. There appears to be no references at all for the content on the Connecticut page.

Either repost the referencing external link or remove the content that I had created. Either way I will be ok with it, just do not keep the content up without properly referencing the original source.

We do not require references for contributions here at Wikivoyage. If you basically copied the material from CTXGuide.com it would likely be a copyright violation and should be removed. I wasn't able to see a word-for-word copy-in for the Connecticut material and I really don't see anything that's too far beyond common knowledge there.

Even though you do not require references, if the content was derived from a source it needs to be referenced as protected under copyright law. The content was not "copied" from Connecticut Explorer's Guide, but it was derived from researching through the website's content.

City trimming

Ah yes, the old philosophical argument as to whether each place deserves its own article. Well, it's my understanding that Evan thought that each town should be assigned to a region (see talk for Massachusetts I think). Not so critical in Pioneer Valley as the counties define the region, but in other eastern areas the lines can be more subjective. Not sure what you mean by de-countyfying. I see other areas using counties. You think the region is not rich enough to support these sub regions? No exception to the 9 cities rule I guess (though I personally think it's bullshit). I understood it this way: Not that every little town can't have its own article. I think they should, but not every little place needs to be listed on a sub-region page when the get out section of the closest decent size place would be enough. As for subdivision, I was under the impression from discussions like this that we want to use counties only when necessary. In this case, don't the three eloquently described subregions of the Connecticut River Valley, the Hilltowns, and the Eastern Uplands make more sense as a way to subdivide this region? I don't know that they're comprehensive or easily defined. They were added after the county sub-regions. I can understand the reluctance to use counties, and really just like them because they avoid wasting time on discussions about where lines are drawn. I'll support whatever you want to do there, I'm going to bed. Hey, you might want to look at Massachusetts talk, too. I guy had an idea there for trimming the state regions (there are more than 9).
