Hello Mathonius, and welcome to Wikivoyage. Thanks for taking care of that vandalism, nice to have you around. If you'd like to learn more, we have a Directory of policies and guidelines specific to Wikivoyage. We also have a special welcome page for Wikipedians. If you have any questions, you can ask me, or everyone in the pub --Inas (talk) 12:29, 15 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Interwikis edit

For interwikis to languages which haven't been moved here yet, I've just been leaving them as-is instead of attempting to change them. Languages are still being added (es and pt: earlier this month, for instance) so any removal of links to ja: and the like might need to be undone if and when those projects are imported. Some languages might turn out to be dead projects and be abandoned to the incubator wiki, but I have no idea which ones will be retained. K7L (talk) 17:03, 27 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi K7L, the Japanese Wikivoyage is currently a test project on Incubator. Most test projects have interwikis to the existing wiki's, but those existing wiki's usually don't have links back to the test projects on Incubator. When a test project is accepted as a new wiki, its content will be imported. Interwiki bots (like CarsracBot) look for interwiki links and they add these to the linked pages. For example, if page A on wiki B links to page C on wiki D, then a bot will edit page C on wiki D and add a link back to page A on wiki B. So, when the Japanese Wikivoyage becomes a new wiki, the interwiki link will probably be (re-)added by one of those bots if the page on ja.wikivoyage links to the page on this wiki. Even if it turns out to be necessary to add these links manually, there isn't a big problem, because new wikis are not imported very often, see the site creation log. I think it's important that the links are up-to-date, whether the wiki currently exists or not, because readers and users might be steered the wrong way. On the other hand, this is just my opinion. If the Wikivoyage community wishes to keep these links, then please don't hesitate to undo my edit. Kind regards, Mathonius (talk) 19:58, 27 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
