Whitton is a small country town in the heart of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area in the Riverina region of New South Wales.

By road edit

Whitton is a 23-km drive from Leeton, via the Back Whitton Road. It is also accessible from a turn-off on Irrigation Way.

By bus edit

NSW Trainlink operates a daily service from Wagga Wagga to Griffith, which stops through Whitton along the way.

Get around edit

The town is small enough to walk around, but a vehicle is required if you go to the Whitton Malt House or Whitton Beach, as they are more than 10 km south of town.

There are no petrol stations in Whitton, the nearest being in Leeton, or a little further in Darlington Point.

  • 1 Whitton Beach, MIA 3 (also known as Second Gate), Murrumbidgee Valley National Park, River Road. Road conditions subject to weather and vehicle capability. 2WD access possible most of the time but not in abnormally wet periods.

  • 3 Whitton Water Tower. 15-metre sculpture of an ANZAC soldier overlooks the tower.

  • 1 Hulong House, 32 Benerembah St. F-Su 9AM-4PM. Sells antiques and collectibles, as well as coffee & cake.

Telstra and Optus mobile phone reception works throughout the town. Vodafone is limited, and often cuts out indoors.

There is a Telstra payphone on Hulong Street, near the post office.
