Wikivoyage:Archive of Wikitravel (not Wikivoyage) logo contest

Contest over

The logo contest is over, the winner is Compass Star. See Project:Logo contest results for the full scoop.

After two years of operation, Wikitravel needs a new graphical logo.

The old one has served us well, BUT: it's not in the correct file format, it'll look awful on merchandising / publicity, and it's mis-spelled!

How to enter

edit

Logo entries should be submitted by 1 August 2005. Graphics should be submitted as compressed bitmap files (preferably PNG files) as well as vector graphics files (such as SVG, PostScript, Illustrator, or Gimp) or other source files that can be further modified, scaled, etc. The final PNG entry should have a transparent background.

To submit an entry to the contest, upload the file(s) to Wikitravel, and add the image to the Logo contest entries page (see directions on that page for details). All entries must of course conform to the Wikitravel copyleft policy.

If you'd rather submit an idea for discussion use your User page or a page within your user namespace to sketch out the idea, and link to it from the logo contest ideas page.

Logo guidelines

edit

Of course, it's up to you what you want to do with your logo. But it would be helpful if you could consider the following guidelines:

  • Wikitravel now has multiple multilingual versions - any text in the logo should be minimal and easy to replace with text in other languages
  • Travel-related logos are preferred
  • It would be nice to emphasize some of the themes of Wikitravel, namely the spirit of sharing knowledge, plunging forward into editing, etc.
  • The logo should be legible and identifiable in a number of sizes and environments, including the top-left corner of this page, the favicon, as (or combined with) a compass card for Wikitravel maps, on T-shirts, and in black and white for newsprint. Alternately you can develop and present a family of branding marks to serve these various needs.

Logo voting

edit

After the contest deadline, registered users will have fourteen (14) days to vote for the logo entry of their choice (details of the voting process to follow).
